Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server is a managed database service that allows administrative access to the operating system. Starting today, RDS Custom for SQL Server provides a simple way to scale your database disk storage as needed. With storage scaling, RDS Custom for SQL Server simplifies the burdensome process of storage configuration as your database size grows.

By using Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server’s storage scaling feature, you can avoid the complexity of manually configuring larger disks for your database partition. In addition, it can result in cost savings as you can minimize overprovisioning of storage and scale when you need to. Storage scaling is typically an online operation, which can allow your applications to keep running without interruption. By simplifying the database disk expansion process, RDS Custom for SQL Server further reduces the undifferentiated heavy lifting of database administration, letting you focus on other high value work.

To scale your storage, you can use the AWS Management Console or AWS CLI. Read the AWS Documentation on modifying storage for RDS Custom for details. To get started with RDS Custom for SQL Server, read the setup guide in AWS Documentation, and deploy using the AWS CLI or AWS Management Console today. Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server is generally available in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Stockholm) and Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo).
